Day 130 - My Little Chickadee

My wife insists on laying seed out on the railing of our back deck when she fills the feeder as well, and honestly, I'm glad she does. :) Got a nice clean view of this nuthatch from my deck door.

Day 129 - Tufted Titmouse

Since we changed the seed in the feeders on our back deck, we've been getting a larger variety of birds. This is a tufted titmouse, on top of one of the feeders.

Day 121 - Peek A Boo

Day 13 - Snow Lunch

Day 154 - Great Blue Heron

This great blue heron was shot around sunrise at Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Concord MA. The heron let me get to within about 20 feet of it to shoot it before flying away. Shot under early morning sun.

Day 134 - Abandoned Egg

Some folks I was walking with found this abandoned and cracked bird egg on the ground, so we set about shooting it, of course. Shot under an overpass, in direct shade, with sunlight coming in from camera right. Shot wide open at f2.8.

Day 130 - Northern Flicker

We have a pretty sorry looking weeping cherry tree in our front yard, and this one flicker appears to like hanging out in it. Shot under an overcast sky with a fixed focal length 400mm, f5.6 lens.

Day 61 - The Pecker's Back

Now I know spring is starting to arrive. The woodpeckers are back! With all the trees (what's left from the ice storm anyway) bare, they're easy to spot. Shot with my 400mm at f5.6, on a tripod.

Day 55 - Female Cardinal Again

The trees in our back yard don't get a ton of sun, and the wind was knocking the very last of the snow off the branches, make it look like it was snowing. This female cardinal was perched close enough that I could get a shot with my 400. Natural light.

Day 53 - Cold Cardinal

In the tangle of down trees in my yard, this cardinal decided to hang out just after we got a few more inches of snow the other day. This area is normally clear, but several of the trees are down right there.

Day 36 - Female Cardinal

Even in the dead of winter we get cardinals on our back deck, on our feeder. While the male birds are invariably the prettier of the species, the female cardinals are still quite attractive. This was shot hand held, with a 400mm (Thank goodness for Sony's built in anti vibration technology).
